Winter Warms into Sweet Spring Flavors

Winter Warms into Sweet Spring Flavors

February is the last month we'll be offering one of our longtime favorites and last holdouts from 2014, Gondo, but we'll also start to taste some pre-ship samples from some growers in Central America and Northern Hemisphere East African countries. This month we're also expecting our third single origin Colombian coffee this winter, from a group of producers called Las Brisas, as well as the possibility of a few other offerings from small producer groups.

The last few roasts of Gondo have been tasting exceptional. Due in part to our roasters who are coaxing out even more sweetness with each week's roast, and because all green coffee change subtly as they age, up to the point of noticeable fading. When Gondo first arrived, its grapefruit brightness and savory tomato flavors were front and center. Those characteristically Kenyan qualities are still there, but over the past few weeks, Gondo's peach and brown sugar sweetness have been coming more and more to the forefront.  We'll be sad to see this coffee go, but are looking forward to fresh Kenyan arrivals this spring!

As we round out the month of February, we're roasting some stellar coffees while waiting for a few new coffees to make it through the Port of Oakland.  All the while, we're tasting both late-harvest South American and southern-hemisphere Africans, along with the first samples from the northern hemisphere's 2014-2015 harvest.  Things are shaping up for continued great-tasting coffees this year.
